Quick Range Trip

I had a little time to kill this evening and I needed to correct a mistake, so I loaded up the gear and headed to the range. It’s nice when it’s just a quick drive, even with rush-hour traffic. When I mounted my Osight SE optic, I forgot that I never put Loctite on the screws mounting the plate to the slide. While I had a successful range trip, I noticed during dry firing practice later at the house that the plate was loose and wobbly. The optic was solidly fixed to the plate, but the plate was definitely loose.

I only had about an hour to work with by the time I got checked in and setup but I really only had one mission: verify zero. I’d noticed that after taking the plate off and securing it correctly that my zero was off with my dry-fire practice. I used my boresight to get me close but I’ve learned I can’t trust that process completely. It really is only to get me in the ballpark. But it definitely cuts down on the wasted ammo.

After the first five rounds, I could tell I was shooting high and to the left.

I tweaked the optic but, to be honest, I think I might be slightly confused. 😀 I managed to pull it over but either I was off or my adjustment was since I ended up with most shots higher. I still put multiple rounds into the target, though.

I made my final adjustments and seem to have dialed it back in. After putting 10 rounds into the 3″ target, I was feeling good. I wrapped up the session with enough time left that I wasn’t being ushered out by the staff. Overall, I had a pretty good trip and I’m happy with the results. Looking forward to the next trip.
