Since the $200 NFA tax stamp was dropped to $0 effective Jan 1, 2026, I’ve been on the hunt for a good, all-purpose suppressor. I had two calibers in mind: 9mm and 300BLK. My primary purpose is to have a suppressor (aka “can”) that I can use on a home-defense weapon. I live in a house with high ceilings and tile floors so I can only imagine that discharging a weapon inside to engage an intruder would have serious consequences on my hearing. I ultimately landed on the Rugged Obsidian 9 which is rated for .22, 9mm, and 300BLK as my first suppressor.
The Obsidian9 provides additional 9mm suppression while staying light & compact. The ADAPT Module also gives you 2 lengths in one suppressor.
I haven’t decided whether the can will be on the nightstand gun or the bedroom rifle, so I wanted to make sure I covered both bases. The Obsidian 9 has a 1/2×28 piston which will fit my Glock 19 Gen 5 perfectly. I also like that it can be shorted from the standard 7.8″ configuration to a shorter, 4.85″ configuration if it has trouble functioning properly due to weight.
It’s pictured here on my Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 2011.

Unfortunately, I’m still waiting on ATF approval of the Form 4. If the gun gods are on my side, I’ll have it this week so I can pick it up for some fun range time this weekend. Until then, we’ll just have to wait for the range report.
