Positive Traction in PA

On the heels of the positive rule changes and proposals from the ATF, it’s nice to see some other good news coming out of Pennsylvania. Two Senate bills have cleared committee and are promising to make residents happy. While SB357 has a ways to go, there’s only one more review required before it goes to the House. This bill effectively removes the requirement to have a weapons license as long as you are otherwise not prohibited (e.g. felons, etc.)

…repealing provisions relating to firearms not to be carried without a license and to carrying loaded weapons other than firearms, providing for license not required…

In other words, if it passes, this will make Pennsylvania another state finally supporting Constitutional carry. Shooters may still opt for obtaining or maintaining a license, however. Should you find yourself needing to travel to a state which doesn’t have Constitutional carry, they may still recognize your license/permit.

Another bonus for those that wish to go the permit route, the investigation time is dropping from 45 days to just 14. This should greatly reduce the time it takes to get a new permit.

Another bill which strengthens SB457 is SB822. This bill seeks to protect gun owners from their local governments trying to pass laws to restrict firearms and ammunition in the local community. This ensures that people don’t run afoul of various legislative issues passing from one community to the next.

It’s never too late to reach out to your legislators to support these measures. Keep pushing, Pennsylvania!
